Lachie's work has premiered at Toronto, Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, SxSW, Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals. He was the cinematographer for New Zealand auteur Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople which premiered at Sundance in 2016 and remains the highest grossing New Zealand film of all time. In 2018 he shot 4 episodes of the Netflix giant Stranger Things, which went on to become the most streamed TV show in Netflix history. Shortly after that Lachlan again worked with production company 21 Laps on Love and Monsters for Paramount Studios which was nominated for a best visual effects Academy Award. In 2019 he filmed Minari for Un Certain Regard nominated director Lee Isaac Chung alongside A24 and Plan B. Minari won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, a Golden Globe, BAFTA and was nominated for 6 Academy Awards, winning 1. Lachlan worked on Season 4 of Stranger Things before re teaming with A24 for The Inspection in the summer of 2021. The Inspection earnt Jeremy Pope a Golden Globe Best Actor nomination. The film garnered over 34 nominations including an AAFCA, Film Independent Spirit Awards, HCFS, Gotham Awards, and was in the National Board of Reviews Top Ten Films of the year.
In the fall, Lachlan was invited into the American Society of Cinematographers and is now accredited in 3 countries. In October 2022 he completed Lady in the Lake with director Alma Ha'rel, a limited series for Apple starring Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram. In July 2023 Lachie shot artist/director Titus Kaphar's first feature film Exhibiting Forgiveness with producer Derek Cianfrance. The film stars Andre Holland, John Jelks and Andra Day and premiered in the US Dramatic competition at Sundance 2024.

His recently completed Academy Award winner Michel Gondry's musical "ATLANTIS" along side producers Gil Netter, Mimi Valdes and   Pharrell Williams and staring Kelvin Harrison jn, Janelle Monae and Missy Elliott
